“Everyone who’s born has come from the sea … Your blood is the sea continued in your veins. We are the ocean — walking on the land.”

timothy findley

I started Aequora with the belief that our adaptable, dynamic bodies are always doing their best to support us within the circumstances we find ourselves in, just as water will always flow to take the shape of the vessel you pour it into. Neither the water nor the vessel is “good” or “bad,” and neither is your body. My mission as a massage therapist is to use evidence-informed treatment strategies to help you find more ease in your system, opening opportunities for new, more stable ways for your body to hold itself in strength.

In the ocean, I find a metaphor for the human body. That’s not an original concept, I know, but bear with me. As complex, dynamic systems go, it’s hard to beat the constant motion of the ocean. Currents and upwellings, tides being dragged around our planet, and the more subtle ebb and flow of the ecosystem above and below the surface.

Yet even within that turbulence, we find moments of stillness: colliding waves that smooth each other out, the pause between high and low tide - moments when forces are in equilibrium and the sea is tranquil. Aequora.

Our bodies organize themselves in space, constantly working to balance forces around our core to keep us upright and stable in gravity. Sometimes the vessel of your circumstances takes on a new shape due to injury or postural habit, and the water of your body flows to fill it. My job as your massage therapist is to help you bring awareness to the vessel your body currently occupies and to offer alternative shapes for your body to flow into.

Thank you for choosing Aequora!

About Me

f you just read that very metaphorical description of my work and are thinking, “Uhhh, this sounds very woo…,” I’m right there with you! I started my life as the son of scientists and “rebelled” by becoming an artist (my second choice after massage therapist - long story). As a sculptor, though, I still had a strong connection to the physics, the technology, the materiality, and the tactility that drove my work. I spent many years working in the highly technical field of large-scale glass art. I’ll never lose my deep respect for science and research.

I’m driven to keep learning, always. When I finally circled back to pick up my first career aspiration, I found a well of knowledge that will never run dry. Ugh, another metaphor! I’m not gonna to apologize. Language and metaphor are useful tools for communicating abstract, complex ideas. I’m both a thinker and a doer, and that’s reflected in the way I approach bodywork - the analytical, scientific side of my brain meeting the intuitive, artistic side. It’s my honor to be your therapist. I hope you enjoy receiving the work as much as I enjoy giving it!
